Save The Date – Balancing The K12 Accountability Model

How do we prepare students to be college and career-ready high school graduates? We need your feedback to answer this important question and identify ways we can measure college and career readiness.

Please join the Mississippi Economic Council and the Ascent to 55% initiative to help inform what a student-centered K12 accountability model that balances students’ academic competencies with college and career readiness standards aligned with Mississippi’s workforce needs should measure.  A working session will allow participants to provide vital information on what they believe a K12 accountability model should include. These sessions will be held at eight locations across the state in September and October.  Each session will be from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with lunch provided.  To register for a September meeting, please click the link below.  Registration is limited to the first 100.  More information for the October sessions will be forthcoming.

Mississippi’s education system has made great progress in recent years by raising scores on the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP), increasing graduation rates, and teacher pay raises. It’s time to build on these accomplishments at the high school level. Students should exit high school on a pathway that continues into college or a high-quality workforce training program, and the funding, metrics, and incentives we use to drive school performance should reflect that.

The research is clear: nearly all students will need some form of postsecondary education or credential to qualify for jobs that provide a wage to start a family, purchase a home, and thrive
in the economy. Please make plans to attend one of the sessions listed below. For questions, contact Jean Massey at Jmassey@msmec.com.
