The Mississippi Economic Council family is saddened by the loss of Bob Pittman, who passed away on Sunday. Bob was the second of four executives in the Mississippi Economic Council’s 71-year history, serving from 1968 to 1998 as Chief Executive Officer. Bob spent a total of 32 years at MEC.
Bob championed education throughout his tenure at MEC, in legislation and programs, offering myriad opportunities for MEC's business members to learn and grow. One of his greatest legacies as CEO is his organization of the J.C. and Annie Redd Leadership Mississippi program, which is still thriving today and notable as the second oldest Leadership Program in the nation.
Bob is remembered fondly in the Mississippi business community and by former staff members. The work MEC accomplished under his leadership is still having a positive impact on our state today.
