Sarah Swanner Medlock is a tribal member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians (MBCI) and from the Bogue Chitto Community. She was born in Philadelphia, MS but has lived in Meridian and Collinsville, MS for most of her life. She’s been married to Michael Medlock since 2012, has one adult son George M. Swanner, and a loyal pet named “Doggy.” Her hobbies include looking for Native American artifacts, cooking with her son, and spending time with her family.

From 1987 to 1991, she worked with Meridian Community College and Mississippi State University-Meridian. From 1991 to 2008, she worked for the MBCI, Adult Education and Head Start Programs. Since 2016, she is the Operations Manager for MBCI, Economic Development and currently coordinating new workforce development initiatives.

She received her B.A. in Business Administration in 2010, her M.S. in Education in 2013, and is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Mississippi State University. She is currently taking International Economic Development Council (IEDC) training courses in order to become a Certified Economic Developer. She was recently awarded one of five positions in the first-ever cohort of the Mississippi Food Systems Fellowship for 2020, which is focused on improving the health and resilience of local food systems.
