The Mississippi Economic Council has announced the 2015 and 2016 officers for Leadership Mississippi.
- Stephanie Patton, Editor/Publisher of The Leland Progress, will serve as Leadership Mississippi Chair for 2015.
- Edmond Hughes, Vice President, Human Resources & Administration for Ingalls Shipbuilding, will serve as Leadership Mississippi Chair for 2016.
Edmond E. Hughes is Vice President, Human Resources & Administration (HR&A) for Ingalls Shipbuilding. He is responsible for leading all aspects of the human resources function related to the attraction, development and retention of the workforce. Areas of responsibility include talent acquisition, environmental, health & safety, labor and employee relations, compensation & benefits, learning & development, diversity, security, community/government relations and business ethics. He was named to this position in March 2006.
Hughes has more than 25 years of human resource and leadership experience with General Motors and TRW Automotive. Before joining Ingalls Shipbuilding, he was Director of Human Resources for the North America Braking & Suspension product line of TRW which included responsibilities for all HR services for 13 manufacturing plants located in three countries. He has served in various functional areas of Human Resources with an extensive background in manufacturing environments, labor negotiations in unionized facilities, succession planning and implementation of human capital initiatives both nationally and internationally.
Hughes holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Tougaloo College and an MBA from Indiana University.
An active member of the community, he was recognized by The Sun Herald as one of the South Mississippi’s 2011 Outstanding Community Leaders. He serves on the board of directors of Habitat for Humanity Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Gulf Coast Business Council and Jobs for Mississippi Graduates. He also serves on the board of trustees for Tougaloo College. Edmond is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Mississippi.
Stephanie Patton is the Editor/Publisher of The Leland Progress weekly newspaper based in Leland, MS. Before purchasing the newspaper in 2011, she had a career in marketing and advertising in the national magazine publishing field for over 20 years.
Her tenure includes lifestyle titles as Southern Living, Progressive Farmer, Cooking Light, Southern Accents, Coastal Living and Oxmoor House book publishers. Her last role at Time Inc. was as Vice President of their Custom Publishing division based in Birmingham, AL. She was awarded the Time Inc. President’s Award in 1999 for revenue generation.
Patton currently serves as the Board President for the Leland Chamber of Commerce, Vice President of Delta Council, Past President of the Leland Rotary Club, and Secretary for the Leland Presbyterian Women. She is also an active member on the Mississippi Press Association Board of Directors, United Way of Washington County Board of Directors, the Washington County Economic Development Center Board of Directors, the Mississippi Wildlife Heritage Foundation Board of Directors, and the Delta Cotton Belles Board of Directors.
She holds a bachelors degree in News Editorial Journalism from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She has also completed leadership programs include the Momentum Women’s Leadership/Birmingham, and Leadership Mississippi.
Originally from West Monroe, LA, she currently lives in Leland, MS with her husband, Kenner Patton, who, after his own successful 21-¬‐year career at Southern Living magazine, is now enjoying life as a Delta farmer.
