Class of 2014 Learns Eco-Tourism on Mississippi Gulf Coast
Leadership Mississippi recently held its 3rd session focusing on Eco-Tourism on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The session kicked off on Thursday, June 12, but some members of the class got started on Wednesday, June 11, with an optional tour of the John C. Stennis Space Center and a reception at Trapani’s Eatery in Bay St. Louis.
The class got started early on Thursday with a 10 a.m. tour of Ingalls Shipyard. The largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi, Ingalls is a major economic contributor to the state and employs more than 11,000 people.
After a lunch and briefing session about Eco-Tourism around the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the class traded land for water, heading out on an exciting nature tour of the Pascagoula River, where they saw local wildlife and scenery and explored this key component of the growing nature tourism indistry of the region.
The class capped off the day at the Alumni Reception, held at the beautiful Biloxi Visitor’s Center and attended by numerous local and regional Leadership Mississippi alumni.
On Friday, the class stayed at the Beau Rivage to hear an exciting and motivating lecture from Dr. Sam Jones and to work on the Leadership Mississippi class project.
