Hewes elected Mayor of Gulfport
Billy Hewes, Leadership Mississippi Alumni Class of 90-91, was elected mayor of Gulfport, succeeding current Mayor George Schloegel, Leadership Mississippi Inaugural Class of 74-75. Hewes ran unopposed for the Gulfport mayoral seat.
Hewes represented District 49 in the Mississippi Senate from 1992 to 2012 and served as Senate president pro-tempore from 2008 to 2012.
Hewes is also a real estate agent and owner of Billy Hewes III Insurance Agency. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1984 and from Harrison Central High School in 1980, according to his website. A father of four, Hewes is married to the former Paula Morton of Gulfport.
